RESEARCH POWERED BY UEDU

Independent research teams choose Uedu

The strongest evidence for the platform is not our own claim—it is researchers across institutions independently designing and running studies with Uedu as their tool or research site, and publishing in international peer-reviewed journals.

Question-only AI Socratic dialogue as dialogic feedback in L2 argumentative writing: A quasi-experimental study

L.-J. Wang·Language Center, National Central University·Journal of Second Language Writing

The experimental group performed significantly better than the control group in evidence use (η²ₚ = .255) and rebuttal integration (η²ₚ = .087); no significant difference was found in claims on the two-point scale.

This study was designed, conducted and published by an independent research team. The author thanks Dr. Chia-Kai Chang by name in the acknowledgements for platform and technical support; the platform is identified as Uedu in the Methods section.

Platform highlights

Uedu offers a complete set of teaching and research tools to help teachers improve teaching quality

AI Course Assistant

Each course has its own AI assistant that guides students to think through Socratic dialogue; teachers can customize their teaching style and guidance strategies.

AI Quiz System

After you upload materials, AI automatically generates quiz questions in various formats, with question-bank management, auto-grading, and score analysis.

Class Screen Recording

Record classroom screen and webcam video, automatically saved and shareable with students for later review.

Bloom's cognitive level analysis

AI automatically analyzes the cognitive level of students' answers (remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, create) to gauge depth of thinking.

Learning Profiling

Integrates three major psychological scales — RIASEC, Big Five, and MBTI — to help students understand their own learning traits.

Garmin Wearable Integration

Collect HRV, sleep, and stress data via a Garmin smartwatch to explore how physiological states affect learning.

What is photosynthesis?

🤖

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use light energy to turn carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen. The formula is: 6CO₂ + 6H₂O + light energy → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂

Students copy the answer directly → no thinking process

What is photosynthesis?

🧠

Great question! Before I answer, let me ask you first:
What 'materials' do you think a plant needs to grow?

👤

Um... water, sunlight, and air?

🧠

Excellent! You've already named the three key elements.
Then,What role do you think 'sunlight' plays in this process? Is it a material? Or...?

Questions teachers ask most often

Address your concerns and use it with confidence

Yes!Just fill out the online form, and the system does the rest automatically.

You don't need to understand how AI works, write any code, or learn new technical jargon. Through the online application system, fill in your course information, verify your school email, and once approved you can start using it.

Uedu offers two learning dialogue modes:
one is Open-ended Q&A, and the other is Socratic Dialogue

The open-ended Q&A mode lets students ask freely and get answers directly — ideal for looking things up, reviewing, and self-study. It quickly clarifies concepts and checks whether understanding is correct.

The Socratic dialogue mode emphasizes guidance and critical thinking. The AI does not answer directly but uses a series of questions to prompt students to reason logically and discover answers themselves. Teachers can also design questions by course topic, forming Scaffolded learning's dialogue history.

If teachers want to design Socratic dialogue questions, they can use UeduGPT Dialogue Design Tool , upload teaching materials or knowledge-point text, let the AI help generate dialogue questions, and then teachers select or adjust them.

💡 Hint:Open-ended Q&A suits quick learning and review; Socratic dialogue cultivates deep thinking and reasoning.

Uedu offers two dialogue modes: Open-ended Q&A and Socratic Dialogue

In the Open-ended Q&A mode , students can ask freely and get complete answers — ideal for review, confirming concepts, or self-study.

while in the Socratic dialogue mode , the AI is set to be a “Only asks questions, never gives answers.” This is the heart of Socratic learning — through questioning, the AI guides students to think and reason on their own rather than giving answers directly.

Example dialogue:

Student:“What is the formula for photosynthesis?”

AI:“Before I tell you the formula, can you first say what 'raw materials' a plant needs for photosynthesis?”

Teachers can freely choose the mode based on course design; to help students think deeply, we recommend using Socratic dialogue mode, and you can use UeduGPT Dialogue Design Tool to help generate dialogue prompts and questioning frameworks.

Absolutely not. This is “augmentation,” not “replacement.”

❌ What AI cannot do
  • Warmth of classroom interaction

  • Share personal experiences and stories
  • Build trust between teachers and students
✅ What AI can help with
  • Pre-class preview guidance
  • Post-class review companionship
  • Answers basic questions 24/7
  • Track individual learning trajectories

AI is your teaching assistant, freeing up time to focus on the teaching that truly needs you.
